Solo bikepacking for the first time in years
After years of bike touring with my partner, I head off on my first solo bikepacking trip in ages. This represents something big for me, as I say goodbye to the comforts of riding with someone else, and seek out the experience of adventuring alone again.

The Panniers I Wouldn't Get Again: Ortlieb vs. Vaude
Переглядів 19 тис.4 місяці тому
I have used both the Ortlieb Back Roller Classic 40L and the Vaude Aqua Back Plus 51L for roughly the same amount of time. I really enjoyed both sets of panniers while using them, but ultimately there's one I wouldn't get again. In this video I'll dig into the layouts, carrying capacities, durability, attachment styles, waterproofness and warranties of these bags. If you're on the hunt for a go...
Is FEAR keeping you from your DREAM bike tour?
Переглядів 2 тис.5 місяців тому
It is so easy to fill our minds with reasons we should NOT do that big bike tour we've been dreaming of. Fear often takes the wheel (or the handlebars!) and has us doubting that we could even do such a grand adventure. In this video I share 3 strategies I have used to overcome these fears and get myself out on the road time and time again. SUPPORT MY VIDEOS BY JOINING THE PATREON CREW! www.patr...

Ortlieb 4.1L Fork Pack: Long-Term Review
Переглядів 9 тис.7 місяців тому
I've used Ortlieb's 4.1L Fork Packs for over a year and a half now. These fork bags have some great qualities such as their waterproofness and ease-of-use. But they have some downsides to be aware of as well. If you're looking for a streamlined way to carry some weight on the front of your bike, check out this review of Ortlieb's 4.1L Fork Packs. Brooks C19 Carved Cambium Saddle Review
Fantastic series! Btw, that “community center “ is a municipal bureau for the ruling political party (leader of which is Erdogan) 😂
Omg, my wife and I burst laughing out loud at eating raw rufka 😂 it’s such a guilty pleasure from my childhood years (and probably every Turkish person ever). Kudos on discovering tahin pekmez 👊👊
Can you not use a schraeder to presta adapter then use a gas station pump if you have problems.
What were the trail numbers you used on the SwitzerlandMobility App?
This was primarily the number 9 lakes route. And then we took another to connect to it out of Zurich :) there really are so many to choose from!
Sixty dollars a night for two cyclists to set up a tent...in a park that we taxpayers fund...pfft! Just 'Rough Camp' it.
Carry an adjustable guy line wrapped around a peg, handy in the top of bike-bag. Tie end to seatpost/frame, to keep bike upright. There isn't always something handy for it to lean against.
Good video with an objective comparison. Sometimes it just comes down to money. Purchased the Vaude Aqua back w/o the side pocket, for half the cost of the Ortiebs - easy decision. Used them on 4 trips so far and they are still in great shape. Have also had the lower rack attachment piece come loose and fall out - easy to put back in - I feel it was user error on my part for unscrewing it too far - haven't had that problem since. Reviews i've read praise both brands - but the price is the price.
I don't cook on tour. I recently discovered peanut butter in a squeeze tube. It's pure genius. No need to muck up a knife. Just buy some kind of flat bread (pitas, tortillas, etc.) and you can have a quick roadside meal. BTW, after 13 tours I still haven't found enough space for food on the bike. When will they make watermelon-compatible panniers? I HATE clipless for most of the reasons you mention. Here's another. I have wide feet. Using touring-specific flat shoes or just any kind of shoe with a stiff-ish sole means you can find a shoe that fits. For off-bike walking, I go with Teva sandals.
Are those the Velo orange crazy bars? How are you liking them? Torn between them and the Koga denham bars.
Yes indeed they are! I'm really liking them so far, but I bet I would like the Koga Denhams too haha Not sure if you've already seen this, but this is a cool way to compare handlebars: whatbars.com/
What tent do you use?
This is the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 3 Bikepack tent :)
drive side rack bolt on the Sulry Bridge Club - same issue with my BC. A washer or two, or a shorter bolt work for me.
Yup, all fixed up now! :)
For me, bicycle touring is about freedom. That includes having my feet free. I wear the most comfortable shoe I own (not cycling-specific) to tour. Sometimes that's a sandal.
Love that!
Stay home and raise children lady
No. My legs are strong but my arms are weak.
Dynamo for lights and to recharge kit. 👍
please talk about tubeless in bike touring , thanks for videos, really great one
Hey! I did actually make a video about tubeless for bike touring. You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/K9IDYBIMEq8/v-deo.htmlsi=U4-Ty2fN0sDg5Y8f
Just got done with Erie Canal trail for my first bikepacking trip. Amtrak ticket got messed up, so I had to ride from Albany to Buffalo with little training. Headwind much of the way, but persistence paid off and my faith brought me through.
Well done 🙌🙌🙌 Love to hear it!
Besides the other million bikepacking Videos, this is not very "special" with some crazy gear, places or Video effects. But girl, you are so authentic. Really Nice to watch.
I never knew this, and I'm an absolutely avid Toronto cyclist. I had to check, and indeed, here's reference: Google: "Toronto’s Cycling Infrastructure" Look down the list to "Bicycle Detector Symbols".
Nice video - how far did you ride each day?
All chat and no cycling - what a waste of time.
It doesn't matter how quiet the leafy lane is, not a car has passed for ages. If I start to pee, it's like the lane has become a superhighway.
Bahahaha this just made my day 😂
Its so nice and refreshing to see actual authenticity on youtube. I'm also a person thats never really "chosen a path" like you mentioned. I've always felt self conscious about it but you reframing it the way you did, and so positively, really changed the way I look at it. Thanks for that!
That means so much to hear ♥️ thank you for the lovely message!
yeah, your on a surly!!, why do folks think they have to go out and buy a surly. there's other touring bikes out there. I don't get it!! yeah surly is steel, i have a fuji touring steel frame i'll match up against any surly any time anywhere. You don't have to ride a surly. so many folks ride them, thinking that's going to be the best. it aint. its a fad!! 4130 cromolly steel is 4130 cromolly steel. its no diffrence. In fact, i am building up an aluminum frame touring bike i'll match against any touring bike anywhere When i get through with it.I am so tired of seeing surly!! ok surly price2,000 dollars. my gravel touring bike G-1 ozark trail wal mart bike 6061 aluminum frame. 250 dollars plus upgrades. surly is over priced.
Who cares what she rides? Don’t worry about it!
I could never sleep after hearing noises outside my tent and not knowing wtf they were coming from. No way. I would put a camera outside so I coukd at least see on my phone. Are there bears out there in that area?
Brilliant review. I’m glad this video came up in my feed.
Aloha Sheelagh🤙🏼 Nice video.
Thanks so much!
I'm living in Perpignan , when the wind is too strong (TRAMONTANE) I prefer to stay at home than ride in the plains
That seems like the right call! They can be so intense.
love your video , I've got a trip in Vietnam for 3 months last year and you give us wise advices The music in the video is boring and useless , I'd just prefered sound of your voice
That was tough. Those winds!
Shades of Dervla Murphy!
Beautiful bike ❤
This is a second video i watch on Your channel, and it's clear that i don't want to leave ;) What brought me was a solo bikepacking video You made, so waiting for more and surely will comment :)
Awww so happy to have you here :)
Какое у вас расстояние между седалищных костей?
I'm 67. I have a few ebikes. I'm more a long-distance bike rider with 3 batteries on hand. I'm a slow rider. I push for long miles rides. I'm moving toward camping with a trailer for all my gear.

Amazing , by
Rail trails I find a little boring.
I can’t resist adding my thoughts to the pronunciation debate. Sheelagh is Canadian. I am also Canadian. We pronounce it pan yah (or perhaps pan ya eh 😂 as true Canadians). I don’t need to look anything up. That’s how we pronounce it here. It’s part of our dialect. Pannier is indeed a French word. Canada’s English is full of French words because of our history and because English and French are the dominant languages of Canada. Peace to all 🙏
The Brooks Cambium All Weather Saddle is not the that wears out your pants. The Brooks Cambium will the embedded linen cover is the one that Zach was referring to.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's "Vow-de" (or more accurately, "fow-de"), not "Vode". And also, "Pan-yer" or "Pan-ee-er" (the entomology of this is interesting if you're curious, but suffice to say the french pronunciation is wrong)
Wife and I just spent two and half weeks on the Via Rhona. Was on the lookout for you but didn't see you.
vaud panniers suck, they are useless
Do you ride with clipless pedals?
THIS MAKES MY HEART SOAR
Nice build, Sheelagh! 👍
Nice , well put together experience with good insight- this was a treat and glad that you shared this with us- thank you! ❤🚴🏼♂️🌱🌿🧘🏼🙏
Thank you so much for the kind words ♥️
